How do I effectively and quickly get rid of fleas on cats?

We give our dog a "flea and tick" pill every 3 month. They probably have something for cats too. Check with your vet.

At this point you are already infested. Toxic measures are all that is left. If you vacuum them, they can live and multiply in there. Must do a multi kill at least 3 or 4 times to catch the eggs. Flea bombs are best but a big pain. Must get pets dipped and be out of house for at least 4 hours then have to clean everything that gets exposed. Furniture, clothes, food , dishes etc. Then spray yard. Must do at least 3 times in 2 week intervals. Sorry

My understanding is that you'll have to do a major house cleaning too to keep those jerk fleas at bay. There are flea collars and drops you can try. I've heard of animals getting sick from the pills so check with your vet.

Hi Paula! We had a problem a few years ago, and finally had to take them to the groomer, who flea dipped them, and physically removed all the fleas. While they were at the groomer I did a deep clean (in addition to all I had already done), bagged anything for 2-4 weeks that couldn't be washed in hot water (I used heavy duty garbage bags sealed tight), treated the carpet with diatomaceous earth which is non toxic and dehydrates the eggs, breaking the life cycle of the fleas, since they hatch every two weeks. It worked and we followed the vet recommendations for applying flea drops to prevent reoccurrence.

Some areas are more prone to fleas than others. I have 6 indoor/ outdoor cats and 3 dogs - no fleas on anyone. It does take some work though. It is hot and dry most of the year which does help. I also spray the perimeter of the property and base of the house once a month with vinegar. Must be repeated after rain, but here in drought ridden CA, we pray for rain. It does help.

Hi I feel your pain! My cat had fleas, my house had fleas, my fleas had fleas! I used Bravecto on my cat. She is 22 years old and it did not hurt her. Fleas are really hard to get rid of. I would suggest treating the house and the yard as well. It took us about 3 months to get rid of every flea!

Hi! I was reading the other answers and realized I had forgot an important step I took with vacuuming. If your vacuum has bags, remove them after vacuuming, seal them and put them in an outside garbage can, preferably in a plastic bag. They are relentless, and will multiply in your vacuum. After I bought a bagless one, I took it outside and cleaned it thoroughly after each use. The same method worked with head lice, but, that's another story!
