Galvanized Metal Pails Turned Outdoor Winter Planters Makeover
Some of you may have seen my post from last winter where I made my pails into winter planters. I wanted to use them again this year but the previous year hasn't been kind to them as they have been outside and exposed to all the elements that nature has to offer. I have been admiring shiny red planter arrangements that are at a variety of stores but I just can't bring myself to pay the outrageous prices for them. So I set out to redo my pails. It started while cruising the automotive aisle of my Canadian Tire store . I found myself in the car paint section and I was in awe. There were so many choices of metallic paints, pearl finishes, and colors. It was perfect for what I had in mind.
Supplies needed are metallic spray paint and my 3 pails.
Remove previous decor and clean all dirt and grim off pails. Let dry. Once dry spray your pails.
This type of spray paint goes on very light and provides great coverage. I did two coats.
Now it is time to decorate your pail. I used a checker pattern ribbon and a wooden snowflake both purchased from Walmart. Using a hot glue gun wrap ribbon around middle of your pail and secure with glue. Then glue your snowflake on to your ribbon. Do the step to your other 2 pails.
Here are the 3 pails finished. I love the paint color! Now it is time to add your boughs. I fill my pails with soil from my garden. I added some birch branches in the middle, then filled in with my boughs of cedar and assorted pine and crab apple branches. I refuse to buy boughs so I cut my own every year. I was told that you can also get boughs free at Christmas tree farms that they cut from the trees.
Here are my planters finished. I love the new look, and I was able to do it in an afternoon.

These Christmas planters are adorable. One could also use the tins that the assorted pop corn comes in if you have them. Love that you painted them bright red, Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas.
