Walnut Chest of Drawers- Brought to Life!
This is a chest of drawers that I completely redid. This piece is almost one hundred years old and the quality was pretty bad when I took it from the customer! But after everything, I'm very pleased with the result at the end. Check it out!
This first photo i took to understand better , and do upfront check to the pieces to preview the work that i would have done and the time it would taken.
The drawers has been done with veneer technique, with a spruce frame base and black walnut veneer that was very screepy because of the moisture.
First step work it's been sand all it down the top that i would thereafter built as new. From sanding the top and frame i've retrieved walnut dust useful for the following step.
Sand....Sand....Sand......Drawers and frame.....Sand....Sand....Sand....
From 60 grit to 220.
P.S. Carefully sanding with the 60 grit to 80 because veneer is 6/10 mm so very easy to sanding it all, so pay very close attention to that.
After sanding it to 80 grit i've used walunt dust and epoxy resin, and wood glue to fill and repair all veneer cracks, put the tape on and wait over night. In the meantime i've worked on the new top made with plywood poplar base laminated with 4 mm walnut ply and 2 mm bahia walnut veneer on the edge.
After bought all the new gear that had been lost, and sanded to 220 grit I've put the first coat of walnut stain on drawers and frame , everything by brush.
After that ,the second and third coat of stain with light 320 sanding in between......only for the top I've reised since fifth coat.
Last step of finishing was two coat of semi-glossy lacquer finishing.
After all,at the end I've mounted all the gear and put the new top on.

Can you give the proportions of the walnut dust, epoxy resin and glue?
