HOW TO CREATE MERCURY GLASS EFFECT IN A FEW EASY STEPS
I have always loved the mercury glass effect and was surprised to learn that it was actually very easy to achieve too! All you need for this project is glass (anything from jars/vases/bottles), water, vinegar and mirror effect spray paint. For this project I decided to re-use some vases and turn them into candle holders to achieve mercury glass effect. This project is easy and quick and the results look amazing!!
STEPS not needed if you are attempting just to create mercury effect.. But for me as these were vases, I needed to create something that would hold a candle.
I cut out a round piece using mdf and glued it on top to cover the hole
Prepare the water solution (50/50 water and vinegar), then spray the glass containers with the vinegar solution (mist setting). The glass should be completely covered in water, but not soaked. Then straight away spray the glass with mirror effect spray paint.
Before it dries use a paper towel to dab the excess vinegar solution and paint off. Make sure you don’t wipe everything, just gently dab and remove it.
Remember you can spray on the inside OR the outside, depending on what you are using the glass container for.
Don't be scared to spray the water mixture and the paint, this is when the magic happens. All those droplets will create a beautiful effect.

Looks really pretty! I have done that a lot and I always seem to get great results. I can’t say I’ve ever used vinegar or water spray. I just spray in short bursts and let the paint run down a bit as I move the object upside down and all around. Anyhow, I really like the change in yours!
