They can't stand the smell of peppermint or cinnamon oil. I bought a spray that is a 50/50 mixture (Ace Hardware carries it). You can saturate cotton balls with peppermint oil and they will stay away. If you opt for the spray, you will have to reapply as the smell dissapates.

basil works very well to keeping mice out.

just find where they come in, spread a few leaves of it around the entrance, and they are no more. for the attic, if you can get in, do the same, clean up the droppings. and spread more basil around, and they will soon be gone.

TMF- I might have mice? Hard to believe as I do have cats, but they aren't allowed in the attic. What do yours sound like from the floor underneath? We hear running back and forth, it sounds larger than a mouse to me, but all I've seen are mouse droppings, I can't find anything like a nest.

How did you figure out for sure mice?

Well, we have mice....I have tried a new remedy. It is Irish Spring bar soap. (original). It has a nice masculine aroma and they say mice hate it. So my house smells of Irish Spring and I haven't seen a mouse (or their droppings) in a couple weeks! I am so excited! Fingers crossed! The soap is 2 for a dollar at Dollar Tree!
