There are two categories of islands- those that are stationary, and those that are moveable.
One common mistake that I have seen folks make with the diy moveable ones is cheaping out and not purchasing casters that are robust enough to support the weight of island and contents.
Stationary islands can have counter tops with longer/larger overhangs and still be stable compared with moveable island bases with the same dimensions.
