New Life to TV Trays
I been eating off these tv trays and when it came to cleaning them the wood was soaking up everything. Enough! I had to do something about it. This is a short project that is very easy to do.
Supplies
- 50 cent paint from walmart in assorted colors. I used black, light blue, silver, gold and tan
- Fine glitter. I used gold from dollar tree
- Sponge DT
- Dollar tree Awesome cleaner
- Dollar tree canisters to mix paint in
- Polycrylic. I used matte
- Paint brush (a throw away brush will do)
Total cost? About $12. Less if you have some of this stuff on hand (obviously)
To start i washed the trays off with the Awsome cleaner. I let it dry completly.
I was painting in the house without a drop cloth so i flipped my area rug over just in case there were any minor spills. I sat the paint on a flattened box while I was working.
I put a base coat of house paint on the trays. It was some leftover paint i had on hand. Mine was brown. I let that dry too. Any color or finish will do. I wrapped my brush in plastic bag in case i needed it again. That keeps the brush soft and moist
I cut two sponges in 3 pieces each
I added some water in my paint, just a little, so it wouldn't be so thick. I also added glitter in my gold paint
I started with black paint and dabbed it all over
Then i did a layer of blue then gold they gray then tan. I ended with gray and black. I did not wait for the paint to dry between coats. Keep going until you are satisfied
After you are done let dry completely then paint 2 coats of polycrilic
You don't have to end with the glitter color for the glitter to shine through!
They look so much better and they clean well!!
