Using the back of another sign and a few dollars in decorations from Dollar Tree, I created a greeting in my foyer. Guests gather here first, and they always notice whatever is new or different.

This is the “end” result, although I find myself tweaking the arrangement every day, adding more leaves or candles, restocking the letters, or playing with the mesh ribbon. Such fun!

I started with the back of a used board with handles carved into each end. With a roll of mesh ribbon from Dollar Tree, which I threaded through the handles and across the board in two loose layers, I created a colored background with no glue, tape, tacks, or other materials that changed the board. The board can be used again and again.

With two sheets of stick-on letters and some fake fall leaves from Dollar Tree, the theme becomes obvious. I love autumn, but here in north Texas, most leaves don’t change colors or fall off the trees until late November or later. So I go faux until I can get the real materials I crave. Go, autumn!

I really like the way the mesh ribbon curled into itself. I tucked more leaves, reeds, long picks with baby corn, pumpkins, and acorns, and other goodies inside the curls and behind them. Each end of the sign is different and open for changes. I also keep placing more flower stems on the table, in front of the sign.

Love those coils of blue mesh! I think I am ready to add a clear or blue glass vase to put the stems in. I also have big wax candles with battery flames inside to add a special glow when guests are expected. Fairly often, recently. And one small candle smells like pumpkin spice. In our 90 + degree days, the candle does not even need to be lit for its homey scent to fill the foyer.

What can you gather from around your home or in discount stores to make a lovely presentation in a foyer or any room where you live? You don’t even need a board if you have a plate or tray or any sized table to get started. Even a window ledge would be great, in the bathroom, kitchen, or somewhere else. Take photos as you go and post on Hometalk!
