How to Paint Terra Cotta Pots With a Modern Color Block Design
Terra cotta pots are easily found in most big box or craft stores.
They're fun to paint and update for your own space. If you want to give them a vibrant and modern look using a color block pattern, it's easy to do!
This is also a fun project to let the kids help with, and they'll be so proud when they're finished.
Here's the supplies you'll need to make your own color block terra cotta clay pots.
- Small clay pots
- Blue painters tape
- Acrylic craft paint
- Black paint pen
- Succulents or other small plant (faux or real will work)
You can find links to all the supplies on my original blog post for this project at Just a Little Creativity
Step one, paint your clay pot all white (or whatever base color you want)
Next, tape off sections at different angles.
Use a vibrant color to paint the inside of your pot. I only went down about an inch, but you can paint the entire inside if you wanted to.
Use your black marker or paint pen to outline your paint edges. This really makes the colors pop and highlights the color blocking.
For these, I used faux succulents I found at Dollar Tree, but any type of little plant will work.
When the pots are dry, you're finished!
Giving a terra cotta pot a new coat of paint is one of the easiest ways to update it for your space.

Can you use them outside? In my experience acrylic paints can come off with water.
