Hi Deborah, here's a good tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxxOtXTiDUY

Hi ! If you have a top loader , half full it with water , then add 1 cup of baking soda
and 1 cup of white vinegar let it run the regular wash cycle , if necessary repeat the process . Don't worry if you see the water bubbling up , when you first put in the baking soda & vinegar , this is a normal reaction , same as making a volcano erupt for a science project . Also remember to leave the lid of the washer in the open position when not in use !
if you have a front loader , make sure you clean out the rubber door basket regularly. Try using a washing machine clean called afresh , this should be used every couple of months . And with this type of machine , you also need to leave the door open , when not in use , I know it doesn't look as neat , but it's necessary !
My washer has a self clean setting. If yours does not, try affresh tablets. That is what my mom uses.
I use two cups of white vinegar and the smallest load of water and run a regular cycle. Leave the lid open for a few hours after you use it on a regular basis to let the machine dry. I cleaned mine last year and have not had the odor come back.

Hi, Deborah!
I use white vinegar and the cleaning cycle on my front-loading machine. Occasionally, I'll use the Affresh tabs. Both ways work well. Using a toothbrush dipped in bleach to clean the gaskets and the door probably wouldn't hurt, either! I hope this helps!
Hi Deborah - This is a great step-by step article on how to clean your washing machine and get the stinky smells out - regardless of whether it's HE, top or front loading. Hope this helps and happy laundry day! Hugs, Holly

Use OXYClean and very hot water. Turn the water heater up. then wipe out the soap dispenser the rubber around the front of the washer and don't forget to clean the filter located on the bottom of the washer, usually a little door. Open it and take out the filter, clean and rinse.
