I love it when I find old vintage pieces in tact, especially china cabinets. This piece is gorgeous and has great storage. I didn’t get a front view of it, but you get the idea!
After cleaning it with Krud kutter, I took out the glass as I didn’t want to get paint on it, unfortunately I cracked the glass in the middle, but no worries, I just told myself it was meant to be as it looks amazing with chicken wire and gives it more character. I decided to leave the other glass in as I didn’t want to break it. I also took out the back to paint it a different color! It’s easy to remove, just tap with a rubber hammer all the way around, then remove.
Once painted, I brought in inside to sand and wax. I cleaned the handles with soap and water, replaced the knobs with glass ones. I measured the opening of the door to cut the right amount of chicken wire, then using my staple gun, attached it to the inside of the door!
I chose a beautiful beige color from Magnolia home for this piece and pure white from Sherwin-Williams for the back.
im So glad this weather is beautiful, I can get so much done outside!
Voila!! Fresh, functional and ready for it’s new home!
Gorgeous, original and new hardware. I ordered these beautiful glass knobs from Amazon.

Have a question about this project?
Did you put strips of wood over the chicken wire inside the door?
I’m going to try this on an old secretary with glass insert doors, the glass should be easy to remove. Just wondering if in doing this well I compromise the strength of the doors ?
