Can you do the brown paper floor over linoleum
I covered an old kitchen floor with thin luan plywood and then added a new vinyl flooring. I didn't touch the old stuff because many old products have asbestos in it.
Here's one person who did it Debbie!

Here's another person who applied it in a bathroom:

Yes, it can be applied over your old floor.
Yes you can. As long as the linoleum is in fairly good condition. It's probably glued down so it wouldn't be a problem. Any minor imperfections would give the paper bag flooring a little texture.
Hi Debbie. If the linoleum is in fair to good condition, you can put down a brown bag floor on top of it. But if the linoleum is in rough shape, you should put plywood down first. I have seen these floors and they are stunning. But it takes a lot of time and patience, and a lot of elbow grease. Debbie, if you decide to put down a brown bag floor, pls consider posting it here on Home Talk. We would love to see it. Good luck Debbie.
Yes, I would clean it well, first.
What is under your present flooring? If your house is built on a slab, you could not put that brown paper flooring on top of your linoleum. There are groutable vinyl tiles that can be put over your floor. You must put a moisture barrier under whatever you decide to use.
It is paper and it will be a shorter term solution than putting a peel & stick vinyl tile floor on top of the linoleum.
Those vinyl tiles start at about 80¢ a square foot and are not labor intensive compared to the paper bag floor.
Hi there Debbie,
Not a good idea in a kitchen - potential of too much water and not at all practical.

You should really consider something water proof that will last more than year. Not a good idea for bathrooms or kitchens. Lot of work for such a temporary fix.
