Hi Patricia, sorry you cat threw up on your wood rug Mine always miss the hardwood and hit the rugs. I hope this helps. Stay well. Dampen the stain with warm water and apply baking soda to the area, enough to cover the stain about 1/4 inch (1/2 cm) thick. The baking soda will absorb the smell and also help lift the stain from the fibers. Pour lemon juice or vinegar over the stain. The baking soda will begin to fizz.Mar 10, 2017

Resolve in the spray bottle. I've never had a stain this stuff wouldn't remove. A little pricey but well worth it or Oxyclean.

Most carpet cleaners should work well on this. Even dish detergent is made to break down the proteins in food. Mix up a watery batch and use an old toothbrush to loosen stain. Blot up stain with an old towel. Rinse with a spray bottle of water and blot until dry.
Have you tried the commercial carpet cleaners? I find the ones with the Oxi to be very effective. My dog had some tummy problems (and on off) and would have empty stomach vomiting and I found that these commercial cleaners with the Oxi additive were very helpful with his bilious is vomiting problem —thank goodness....that’s been resolved.
Hope you find the perfect solution good luck
is the stain also discolored from red food dye? or just the yellow bile?
My daughter's dog left a stain on my rug. I blotted all the residue with paper towels, cleaned with Resolve, and then shampooed it with a pet stain remover for shampooing the rug. Took it all out.
This stuff is amazing: https://amzn.to/2U90ffy
I found there is grease in the vomit of a dog or cat. My dog "urped" on my rug and though I cleaned it, it kept reappearing. So took a mild solution of dawn dish soap and treated the spot with that. Now they make Resolve just for pet stains and it works.
Thank you Betsy
Patricia....I would try Blue Magic from AutoZone....we love it! Good luck
Had dog stains on berber carpet, tried everything and then saw someone post about using a steam iron (damp towel in between of course) to remove. It took up stains that had been there for years that had not completely come out. I'll copy a link but I don't know if it is the one I used. Must be very careful of course not to get off towel or could melt carpet. But it really does work if nothing else gets it up. Good Luck!
