Declutter Your Desk With This Simple Project
I didn't want to get neck and shoulder pain from looking down at my laptop monitor so I raised it up with this stack of large books but they made the desk look cluttered. I had recently converted an old filing cabinet to a country style look with white paint and black handles so I thought I should make a riser for my laptop in the same style. This is quick little project which can be done in a few hours.
Cut a rectangle from 1cm or half inch thick plywood. Mine measures 40cm x 27cm (16 x 10 3/4 inches). You can use whatever timber or plywood you have in storage. Quickly sand the edges and corners.
Apply two coats of white enamel semi gloss paint. I used a small paint roller. Allow to dry overnight between coats and if you have time after final coat allow a full 24 hours to dry to harden up.
I purchased a set of 4 x 10" hairpin legs from eBay as this would give me the correct height. I needed the top of the screen at eye level. You may need more or less. They cost AUD 34.00 so economical for this small project. After placing the legs on the underside and marking with a pencil the screw holes, we drilled holes. Make sure you don't go all the way through to the other side. The screws which came with the legs were too long so we cut them down.
I added the flat feet which came with the legs and then removed that ugly heavy stack of old books. After placing my laptop on top I stepped back and admired it.
Don't you think it looks much better?
Above is the filing cabinet covered in plywood and painted white with new handles. I also painted the desktop with the same white enamel paint using the small roller.
