I'd vote for painting it too :)
clean with TSP then primer then paint
Paint it white or a light cream for a modern farmhouse look.

Paint with Kilz primer and then repaint. You can also buy a wallpaper designed to hide the grooves or other wall imperfections. After adding the paper you can paint any color you want. The paper comes with a variety of textures.
If you're willing to take on a project, I'd remove the panelling. If you ever sell, it's much more attractive to buyers these days. You may need to touch up the walls, but in the end, I believe it's the best solution.
You could paint the entire wall or just the grooves. Go with a light color or something bright. Hang a mirror and add lighting. Put a bright colored throw on the loveseat.
You could either remove the paneling or paint it white.
We painted ours and it looks fabulous. I love the texture on the wall.
Paint is the best and easiest solution.
Make sure the paneling is clean and dry. Prime with a good stain blocking primer like Kilz. Then paint like painting regular walls. Acrylic latex paint will work. If the paneling has grooves you can fill them with non shrink drywall patching compound. Just put on enough to fill the grooves. Let it dry overnight. Next day use a damp sponge to smooth the patch. Then prime and paint.
I’ve painted paneling with great success. I chose not to fill in the grooves which gave it a cottage-like effect. Your room will be beautiful!
Thank you everyone for the suggestions on painting paneling. Really appreciate all the great suggestions.
I would for sure paint them with chalk paint and slightly distress with glazing ...beautiful wall
First I would determine if it is just paneling over studs, over drywall or over concrete walls. Is this on an inside wall or an exterior wall? That can make a difference as well. If it is over drywall, personally I would take it down and use it on my garage walls. That gives you a chance to do what you want with the drywall. Good luck.
Paint them. My Grandparents have an entire basement of paneling and we painted them white and they look amazing! Brightens up the entire room and the panel lines look cool.
