Hello Leah,
You could buy a new mat! I guess you want to transform the shaggy mat so hear goes: Cut down the pile all over the mat. Dye the mat. Turn the mat over! Paint the mat! Cover the mat with another fabric. Hope that helps.
hmmm...are you asking how to repurpose the shaggy bath mat into a stylish rug? Or are you asking whether you should replace a stylish bath mat with a stylish rug for the bathroom? Sorry, just clarifying here. I would replace your bath mat with a stylish rug if that is what you are asking! YES do it. I often buy beautiful little area rugs (oriental style) for the bathroom instead of a bath mat. It gives the bathroom more style. Just don't do what they used to do in the 70's and wall to wall carpet the entire bathroom. ha.
What is the bath mat made out of?
You could always dye it for a new look.
You might add fringe to it and put it in another room. Or sew a cloth frame around the outside.
You certainly don't need to have a shaggy bath mat. Have you looked online at some of the rug options? I bought this gorgeous rug through Walmart online.
Their rugs come in a HUGE selection of sizes. You should be able to find one that fits your bathroom space.
If the back of the mat is still in good condition, you could save the rubber backing and put a different fabric on it or make a new rag rug of your own choosing.
You can use any style rug in a bath room. Best to stay away from wool and silk if you use it to step on from a bath or shower. I usually get my rugs from Wayfair.
Hello Leah, there is no reason you can't change to a stylish looking rug in the bathroom, just make sure you dry it between uses to prevent mold from building up, there a many options out there, so have fun choosing! As long as you can dry it out, you can use whatever you like!
Hometalk has lots of bath rug ideas, a quick search will turn up lots. Just be sure it’s non-slip for safety.
I shop at Home Goods, TJ Maxx and Marshalls for great prices on bathroom rugs- they have every style, shape and color imaginable. Also the Good Housekeeping brand of rugs at Walmart are nice too
If the shaggy part is what is bothering you, I'm wondering if you could use hair clippers to cut off some of the fiber to make it shorter?
