Wall Bar
We had an empty space in an alcove so decided to turn into a place to store and display our drinks and for somewhere to hang the glasses and not have them in a cupboard. Quick project only taking a day to do
This is the first project I done using dowels as I didn’t want the sight of screws. Using a dowel jig like this one from wolfcraft made marking and lining up the holes so much easy.
I often use masking tape on wood when doing marking as this saves having to sand it off after
Once I had cut all the pieces out of PSE oak, I could dry fit this together and make any alterations that were needed before the glue up
I drew up a quick template the same length as the shelf and spaced the glasses evenly a long.
Then using a hole saw and a jig saw I could cut along the lines to hang the glasses from the stems
I wanted to be able to hang both wine and champagne glasses on this unit so i repeated the above process to make a second row
I stained the wood a medium oak colour before gluing as it made the task a little easy to do when the pieces where flat
I didn’t have any clamps big enough to use for this glue up, therefore I used a trick of ratchet straps on the top and bottom to keep everything tight and square while the glue dried l.
One the glue was dry and could hang it up on the wall and pour myself a glass
