$3 DIY Upholstery Cleaner
Searching for a DIY Upholstery Cleaner? Look no further! This easy, inexpensive DIY upholstery cleaner does the trick every time!
So many times I find upholstered pieces at sales that have nothing wrong with them except a few stains. My guess is the previous owner didn't know how to get the stains out.
Lucky for me I do!
Be warned this next part is gross so if you're squeamish go directly to the results.
I unfortunately had a sick cat who threw up on my chair. The yellow stain on the bottom left with the water stain is from his episode.
No worries though! We can fix it.
You will only need three things to get rid of just about any upholstery stain. All of them can be purchased at the dollar store for $1 each, which makes this a $3 upholstery cleaner.
Mix:
- 1 Cup of peroxide
- 1 Tbsp of Blue Dawn
- 1 Spray bottle
Instructions
Mix the peroxide and Dawn in the spray bottle and shake well.
Spray on the stain. I extend the spray beyond the stain to make sure I don't leave a water stain. You might see the stain start to life right away.
Let the cleaner soak in. I let is sit for a minute just to be on the safe side.
Using a soft cloth (I used a flour sack towel) scrub the stain and surrounding area.
Blot the area to absorb excess water and allow to dry. If you want to use a damp cloth to rise the area you can.
The stain should be gone. So far this has saved my area rug from red wine, several chairs and a sofa.
I hope it works as well for you!

You didn’t answer all the questions. Especially the one about adding warm water to the bottle

I did answer actually. No I don’t dilute this with water.

Have a question about this project?
Will this work on printed upholstery without discoloring it? Do you know how to get mildew stains out of multi colored fabric not upholstery?
Worry that the peroxide will fade or take out the color of the fabric... Have you had any problems with this happening?
Do you just put the peroxide and dawn in the spray bottle or do you fill the rest of the bottle up with warm water?
