Easy Formula for Amazing Planters
Are you looking for an upgrade to your planters or pots for your front porch or patio? Follow this three part formula before you set up any potted plants. They will have that extra wow factor. You won't regret it.
Before you begin with your planters, make sure that the planter you choose has drainage in the bottom. If it doesn't, you can easily drill a few holes in the bottom to keep your plants happy. Plants hate to have wet roots.
The next step is to add some potting soil to the bottom. I like to use organic potting soil.
Now it's time for the plants. The three plants you choose should be:
1 - A plant with some height called a thriller - Thrillers can be tall grass/ground covers, small shrubs like boxwood. You want something that grows the wall.
2 - A plant with some color called a filler - Fillers can be flowers or any plant you like that has color. These can be changed out seasonally.
3 - A plant that will flow over the side called a spiller. These can be an ivy or a potato vine.
Be sure to consider the amount of sun that your pots will be getting when you choose the plants. If they are on a covered porch don't get full sun flowers.
Plant your thriller in the back third of the pot.
Then add your fillers in the middle and your spillers in the front third. Fill in with some extra soil and you are done!
