Need help! Just repainted and need some advice for rugs (colors and placement - parallel or perpendicular to stairs or both) and suggestions for an entryway table (size and placement).

Hi Kristen. I think a runner rug would make a nice addition to your entry. An entry way table would look great on the wall under the stairs. On the opposite wall put up a piece of art. Pull a color out of the art work and use that same color in the runner rug. I hope this helps you. Good luck Kristen.
I agree with Cindy. A runner would look the best. Stay with neutral colors so not to overpower the stairs. Table by the the stairs.
Yes, go with the runner rug and small table by the stairs. Some artwork would be nice that would go with the color of the rug.
Hi Kristen,
Obvious place for hall table would be backing on to stairs. I would add a mirror on wall adjacent to stairs and the short wall facing entrance as seen in photo, as that would give the look of more space as you enter home. As I am not sure how much room you have in front of staircase and door( I am assuming Entrance door is somewhere in front of staircase, behind camera position) It is possible that in that gap it would be best placed for effect. If the Entrance door is to the righthand side as in the picture. I would say that position would be good too, but it is difficult to say when the Entrance and clearance is not clear. Hope that give an idea anyway......
What about a round rug and table floating in the Center of the foyer?
I would love to see a beautiful rectangular rug right in front of the door. A runner down the hall would look pretty too. A rectangular console table would look really nice backed against the stairs. Now that I am reading others comments, I apparently am reiterating what everyone else has said. lol. Bring colors in through a glass vase on the table, artwork and in the rugs. Maybe add a pretty upholstered chair next to the table. Or underneath the table a couple of ottoman benches. wow beautiful house!
I agree with the comments about a long runner down the hall and a table next to the stairs.
I would use a runner from the front door and down the hall. Be sure it doesn't slip since it will go right in front of the stairs. A table against the stairs would look best. I would go with a pop of color since the entire entry is neutral. Pick something you like/that is used in another part of your home.
I would put a bench that runs along the stairs and then put a runner rug in front of that
The "best" foyer table is a round one but that requires enough space for people to move about freely. The basic 'rules' for an entry table "The table should be approximately 2 ½ to 3 feet high (so that it's about level with a person's hand at their side). The width can be anywhere from 2 feet to 5 feet depending on the size of the wall or empty space." A wall table may be your only option but I encourage you to layout a round shape in the center of various sizes and try moving around it to see if the space can handle it.
I'm in FLaDuh so floor rugs are more a pain than a help as stuff is tracked in from outside. I would use a floor rug immediately at the door, of course. I would choose one with the wall color and floor color mixed to meld the two together. This would also match other items you chose your paint off of.
Mirrors and/or artwork in the hall and going up the stairwell will help brighten and tie the spaces together.
All good suggestions above. I would put a tall plant in the corner by the staircase, place a small table in nook opposite the staircase that has dark wood like your railing and door to catch mail and keys. Look for a round or octagon rug and coordinating runner for down the hall. Change the light fixture. What is the traffic pattern from the door? As far as picking a color you have a lot of options because of your neutral wall and stair colors. Beautiful home. Have fun decorating.
I would put a sofa table against the staircase with a long runner. Perhaps something with a bright color like teal.
Thanks everyone!!! The light fixtures are definitely on the list to be updated! I wasn't sure if I should do the runner next to the stairs or in front of front door or both... We're a "no shoes house", so hopefully no one will be tracking in too much dirt!!!
The traffic pattern is basically to the right (passing the stairs) to the mud room to drop off shoes then straight past the base of the stairs to the living area, etc.
So now I'll be on the hunt for rugs, table and artwork, etc.
I would center the rug in tge foyer, parallel to the stairs. The entry table will be round and centered on the rug. Then, a grand, beautiful floral arrangement. I made mine from dried natural florals from Hobby Lobby. I spent more money than I wanted bit it is so full and pretty. Tgat is what I would do for the basic look, then I'd flip out on holidays...all of them! You have a fabulous foyer to have fun in!
a low bench next to the stairs for sitting your purse down or putting on shoes- find a rug that goes with the colors you use in your decor and some decor on the walls- if you have Home Good, TJMaxx or Marshalls in your area they have awesome prices as well as Hobby Lobby on decor and benches
