Grass growing up in wire
Staining Fence?
I need to stain my fence which has wire on the inside. Also we have grass growing under it and can't get that out. 1. How do I stain with the wire. 2. How can I keep grass from growing up in between the wire and fence?

You can weed-wack the grass and weeds or use a weed killer. Here's what I use:

As far as staining the fence, I would spray the stain and not worry about the wire. You could also brush it, but it will be more tedious with the wire there.
All-Natural Weed Killer
I agree with the first comment, weed wack or use a weed killer on the weeds and then just spray the stain on.
Just spray the stain onto the fence as though the metal wasn't there. The stain won't adhere well to the metal and you could wipe the metal down with a soft cloth. The grass can be killed along the fence line with a solution of vinegar and salt or simply pull and lay a narrow board along the fence line or other barrier.
I would use a weed wacker for the weeds, they are very fast and efficient at getting rid of weeds. Then spray the stain on, it will not stick to the metal fence.
You won't be able to keep the weed away forever. You can apply a vegetation killer that lasts for a year. That is however a chemical (for those opposed) and you have to be careful as to what is nearby you do NOT want to kill. They work well and kills all vegetation with usually one application. Mix and add to a spray bottle.
As for the stain paint it on with sprayer like a Wagner spray gun.
If removing the wire isn't an option, weed whack or hand pull the grass. After you dig or pull it out by the roots, put down landscape cloth and then mulch. Finishing any fence with a spray painter is easier. Good luck and stay safe!
I used Spectracide to get rid of weeds, but be careful it also kills grass
Either pull the weeds or pour a thin line of vinegar along the fence to kill them.
As for the fence and getting behind the grid lines, you can let the stain run down behind the wires but you will not be able to rub off those areas.
use a grass and weed killer on the fence are first let it dry then paint you can spray paint the fence here is how to do that

How can I stain my fence that has chicken wire on the inside?
Hello Lisa,
Paint over everything! Use salt along where grass grows. That should help
You will have to use weed kill to keep the weeds from growing, and you can stain the fence with a stain and a sponge and carefully sponge the area around the wire.
Yes Use a paint sprayer or a meduim nap roller to stain the fence. Weed wacker or vegetation killer along the fence line. Then add a brick, patio block, or landscape block border along the fence level with the lawn. Would prevent the grass and make it easier to mow the lawn.
I agree with everyone about spraying the stain onto the fence and pulling/spraying weeds.
