Gnats?
I love having my screen doors & windows open as often as I can. But this year, the gnats are eating us alive in and out of the house. I know they are very tiny & I heard they can fit through the holes in the screens ......anyone have any ideas on how to block or put something on the screens to prevent gnats from coming in the house? Or do I have to shut all of my doors & windows? Also, does anyone know when the gnats stop? Thanks for your help all !.....Madeline

It might be a good idea to replace your screens with a finer mesh from diy stores, or Amazon, that would help prevent them from entering through the mesh that is existing.

We have this problem at the beach. The trick is to buy the finest screening you can find. That was the only way we were able to keep them out!
Hi Madelaine, hope this helps you out,Place a small cup of apple cider vinegar by your screen door. The vinegar will attract the gnats but will also prove fatal. The acidity in apple cider vinegar is too much for gnats and will kill them in a matter of seconds, once they land in the cup to drink.
Apply Citronella Oil On the Screens
Several pests detest its odor and that is why this option is effective when it comes to keep them away from your screens. You can place oil on a paper towel, then put it on the window. You can also add a few drops to a spray bottle, then use it on the window screens

Hi Madeline. Try making a solution of a half-cup of warm water, 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, a tablespoon of sugar, and 6 drops of liquid dish soap. The gnats will be lured in by the sugary mixture, but once they dip in for a drink, the sticky dish soap will trap them. I hope this helps you. Good luck Madeline.

Hello Madeline,
Best to keep the screens closed at all times, but it might help if you keep pots of Lavender or Rosemary or Lemon balm or Citrenella on the window ledges and around the door and leave a bowl of something sweet just away from the home as an attraction. Don't have perfume in the house - don't wear anything with perfume .
