I am wondering what is the best area rug for a living room with pets.

I agree with the polyurethane material. I would definitely get a print. Low\no pile. Not too light of a color. Will hide any accidents. These rugs have come a long way. They don’t look as cheap as they used to. Lowe’s and Home Depot have a nice selection especially if you need two of the same pattern. Area rugs are the way to go even if you don’t have pets. They are so rich looking. Good luck in your search ,!
Get a Ruggable. It's a machine washable rug. I love mine
Mohawk make a great product with a warranty, take a look here:

Click on "all products" and then area rugs. Also select Find a Retailer for 1 in you zipcode area. Best to you.
Hello. I would suggest to avoid Berber tightly coiled rugs, the pets nails and collar id tags catch and pull the weave apart.
Check out ruggable.com. They carry washable rugs which I am guessing would be the best option for someone with pets. When we had indoor pets, I got rid of all my indoor rugs.
Lots of pets here, I use indoor/outdoor rugs that I can take out and hose off on the patio or driveway, then hang over my fence face down until dry. I live in a hot and very dry climate. May not work as well in a humid climate. No issues and even less so since COVID. Only people that have been in my home since then were the plumbers and water restoration people or my quarantine buddies.
I would avoid a dark color - because you can easily see fur with a dark color (I have a dark brown area rug and I see my cat's fur on it all the time and am vacuuming!)
We like rugs with pattern, so the dog hair isn't as noticeable. And Rugs USA is a good place to get rugs for reasonable prices.
Hi! Low pile and a good vacuum! Stay safe!
rug with pattern and for sure not wool one
A patterned rug that can be hosed off outside or thrown in the laundry would be best for a pet friendly home.
