You could try painting it with chalk paint. It is made to work with just about any surface with little to no prep work. I like to use the chalky finish paint by DecoArt. It works well and it's relatively inexpensive.

Sorry, here is the other... https://www.recreateddesigns.com/2016/07/a-farmhouse-cabinet/
Clean with tsp then prime and paint. Try doubt a two tone effect by leaving part of the wood and painting part of it a deep blue or green.
Chalk paint looks good and is very in style right now. White or cream would look good
Well - you could paint it, or strip to bare wood and stain it a different color?
I also think usin chalk paint would look fantastic, here's a link so you get an idea

I would sand it down gently, then prime with a bonding stain blocking primer, lightly sand and then paint. Using a sprayer would be ideal but you can use mohair rollers you can get those at Sherwin Williams
I have some pine pieces in my home and loved them except for the pine color is so outdated for us so we chalk painted it and it looks great hard to believe it is the same pieces

Hello yes Michelle,
Colour wash it! Paint in satin finish, Just pick out the details and Highlight them. Paint just the frame or Just the doors. Use a coloured wax or a coloured varnish. Decoupage the centre of doors with wallpaper or fabric. Have fun and keep well!
You could paint it
I've seen people stencil over the wood so it looks like you've burned a pattern into it.
You could distress it like using this technique: https://do-daddy.com/how-to-antique-furniture-with-paint-and-stain/
Hope this Helps! Jeremy - https://do-daddy.com
You’re really only limited by your imagination here. What else is around it? What’s your style? How do you plan to use it? Seek out images of furniture redo’s online and that will help you narrow your decisions.
Hi! Paint will almost always be the response you will get. Another option is to strip and sand it so you can stain it a different shade that you like more. Good luck and stay safe!
What is in the same room? I would tie into the decor of that room.
Are you wanting something easy, but expect the finish to last 20 years? Then I would not use chalk paint.
If you stain it, a stained finish is more forgiving because the wood grain "fools the eye" for minor scratches.
I'm told gel stains can be put over old stains, but of course, it would have to be extremely clean.
