I’m making a charcuterie board and need it to be food safe. What is the best food safe finish to go over stain or paint? I’m also thinking I might like to use chalk board paint. Would I need to add a food safe finish? And after a finish could you still write on it with chalk. Thanks in advance!

Shellac, walnut oil, linseed oil, mineral oil, beeswax, or fractionated coconut oil are all food-safe.
You could use envirotex epoxy resin. They use this on bar-top tables and countertops around food.
Hello I might suggest food grade mineral oil or beeswax to be a finish a choice.

Use two coats of acrylic paint. After the paint is dry, you will use your paint brush to apply a thin layer of Shellac. This shellac is supposed to be non toxic.

I wouldn't use chalk board paint unless you want a chalk board. Then you don't use it as a serving tray.
Hello, this is a beautiful board, I used this for coasters as well

Hello there,
Maybe Mayonnaise!
Do not use chalk paint, it will not be food safe. If you are looking for a general coating. use mineral oil from the grocery store. You can find it in the drug aisle. I use it on all my cutting boards. It is food safe, not like the mineral oil you find in Home Depot or Lowes.
