Course sea salt or kosher salt should work. Scrub it with the salt and a damp cloth.
Thanks, it’s back to looking good
Hi Kareen,
Soak it overnight in Hot water and Washing up Liquid Soap! It should lift off!
Pour some oil on and then sprinkle salt. Ball up some aluminum foil and scrub it off. Then lightly rinse and oil it again.
Hi Kareen, you could also try filling the pan with water and letting it boil. The heated water should sufficient soften the food enough to get it off. Hope that helps!
How to remove burned bits of food. For a gentle but effective scrub, take a tip from the spa and use salt. Generously sprinkle kosher salt or coarse sea salt into the pan and scrub it with a clean, damp washcloth. For extra stubborn spots, use a plastic pan scraper to work the burned food off the pan.
Coarse salt, like kosher salt, as a scrub. You can use a steel wool or copper scrubber Not the kind with soap in it. Then just keep scrubbing and scraping until it's all gone.
If you need to re-season, heat oven to 350 and coat skillet with oil. Put a larger pan below to catch dripping. Put in the oven for an hour-upside down. Then turn off oven and remove once it has completely cooled.
Fill it with water and detergent and put it on the stove on a low heat. It should soften the egg so it can be washed off.

soak it off then scrape whatever is remaining. You will have to reseason the pan.
This mishap occurred due to a poorly seasoned pan and or not enough fat for the high heat. Cast iron cooks hot and can easily burn. Don't rush the cooking process and be sure to use the right fat for what you will be cooking. Happens to all of us.
You can always have it sand blasted, and then re-season it.
Hi Kareen, sorry you burned your food, we all have. hope this helps.

Here is a couple preventative tricks. Always heat the pan first then add oil or shortening. this help any pan not stick as much. Also noticed cornbread comes out cleaner while still warm but sticks more when cold.
We are cast iron cooks with inherited skillets. We boil the pan to loosen food or scrub with salt but always reseason after scrubbing. At least heating the pan til dry then rub a little oil in it afterwards.
Put the skillet back on the stove , get the skillet pretty hot then take to sink and add cold water to the skillet. I guess the sudden change in temperature releases the food. Or if it's on the sides also . Put the skillet on the stove fill with water and heat up. This too helps. All I cook with is cast iron. Ps after cleaning ,towel dry the skillet, lightly spray with nonstick spray the use a paper towel to spread evenly on pan. And then store. I hope this helps you...
Put coke cola in the pan and bring to the boil for a few minutes and when it is cooling off drain and wash the pan in hot water
GENTLY BOIL ALL OFF
Do NOT use soap or baking soda. You will strip all your seasoning.
All you need is to put water into the pan and boil it while stirring with a wooden spoon or spatula. It will get you all the grime on the bottom. You may need to boil it for a few minutes while stirring.
Then just dump the water, wipe clean with a paper towel and re-season!
You can use egg boilders to avoid these

Get right to it: Clean the skillet immediately after use, while it is still hot or warm. Don’t soak the pan or leave it in the sink because it may rust.
Add hot water: Wash the skillet by hand using hot water and a sponge or stiff brush. (Use tongs or wear gloves if the water is extra hot!) Avoid using the dishwasher, soap, or steel wool, as these may strip the pan’s seasoning.
Scrub off stuck-on bits: To remove stuck-on food, scrub the pan with a paste of coarse kosher salt and water. Then rinse or wipe with a paper towel. Stubborn food residue may also be loosened by boiling water in the pan.
Dry the skillet: Thoroughly towel dry the skillet or dry it on the stove over low heat.
Oil it: Using a cloth or paper towel, apply a light coat of vegetable oil or melted shortening to the inside of the skillet. Some people also like to oil the outside of the skillet. Buff to remove any excess.
Put it away: Store the skillet in a dry place.
