I have a 4 1/2 foot wood fisherman that we had around our pool for many years. Would like to change it to Father Christmas, any ideas how?

  • Without a picture, my first suggestion is paint. Use red for his hat and coat and black for his boots. Does he have a beard? If not, you'll need to make one - maybe use a string mop?

What is your wooden fisherman doing? That would be a base for turning him into Father Christmas. If he has props like a net or a fishing pole, change them into a bag of toys and maybe a rein for his sleigh.

Of course the painting of him to change his outfit, make a beard-or buy 1 at the dollar store and attach. The hat is easy to find.

    What a fun project!

you could paint it, you could add a hat and other decor to it - just look at photos for Father Christmas and then copy that onto your fisherman

Hi Elaine, I could repaint the fisherman and try to change the colours into Christmas ones... red and white with black boots etc... If you would like to continue to use him outdoors, I would also give him a spray of clear coat when you are done with the paint to protect it during the winter. Have fun!

A photo would really help! But without that you could start by repainting it with the Santa classics: red hat and clothes and white beard - that will go a long way. :)

You could go fun Santa with a hat and tropical Christmas print shirt. Or get clothes in the boys section , red shirt and pants, and add white fur trim.

I actually have a fishing Santa because my husband fishes. I found an old wig at the thrift store, but you can use yarn, cotton or fiber stuffing. Glue it to his face. I put a hat on mine, and Actually made a small fishing pole from dowels, Mine was big enough to get clothes from the baby section, so I put a red shirt on him and green pants. Oh and I put a fish on the end of the pole.

Can you paint his outfit red, add a beard and hang some decorative ornaments on him?

Hi Elaine, I'm assuming your wooden fisherman has a hat on and perhaps a beard. I would paint all his clothes red with a white trim and his beard white. If some bits are missing, like the hat or beard you can always add them by making fabric versions. Normal acrylic paint will work fine to paint the wood.

Depending on what your fisherman is made of, you can paint directly onto the fisherman's clothes and hat. You can even ad a pom pom to the top of the hat.
