Roll up kitchen cabinet doors?
My husband is an amputee, and when he has to use his wheelchair he often hits the kitchen cabinet doors or knobs not only scuffing them but breaking the screws off the hinge. - Is there any way to make the cabinet "doors" more flush and flatter? Perhaps a roll-up? Any ideas and how to's would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Pam you can have cabinet doors built that sit flush inside of the cabinet openings plus hardware/handles that are built right in to the cabinet doors themselves. I'm including a couple of pictures as reference. I'm also including a youtube video on how to make rolling cabinet doors. Hope all that helps! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xb1i-0KdusA
Hi Pam, you probably already have lots of information that has assissted you and your husband it making portions of your home more handily accessible. Here's a link that may have some new info you're not aware of as yet.

You might consider contacting your County Extension Office.
Have you considered removing the cabinet doors and just having open shelving? This might help. I tried this but did not like seeing all the contents of the cabines so had roman shades installed which can be easily raised or lowered with the string appliance on the side. When I sold the home I had the shades removed and the cabinet doors reinstalled.
What you could do is remove the knob on the door and attach a cord to pull it open, this is assuming the screw goes all the way through the door front to the inside of it.
Since there is a hole there made by the screw and if it does not go all the way through, you could just keep drilling and put the cord through that way.
If the screw does not go all the way through you could take an eye, (as in hook and eye) screw it to the inside of the door and attach a cord over the top of the door.Just pull to open..
For the hinges, remove them and add inside hinges.
Hi Pam , they do make them, but finding them me be an issue, I attached a link that should hopefully help you find out how to get them.

You can switch the hinges to interior ones and remove the pulls. If you have difficulty opening them with the pulls removed, you can put a small indentation on the side of the door to grip or add a petite pull on the side.
Hello Pam,
You could remove the doors and add curtains (Gingham etc.)

All of our cabinets have recesses on one edge. It can be done with a small router. We have no pulls or knobs on any of our cabinets in kitchen and bathroom. However, when you remove the hardware, there will be holes that need to be filled.
Would some sort of recessed drawer pull help?

Hi! I bought cabinets at Home Depot when I remodeled my kitchen. Both they and Lowes have an amazing assortment of styles and types of cabinets. They will do a computer plan for free, if you give the room measurements and layout of windows and doors. I'm sure they have something that would work for you. Alternately, you could get them refaced with a flush door. A bar type handle might work better than knobs for you, or no handle at all. Good luck!
You could have the doors resized to be inset. this would require different hinges.
You could install sliding cabinet covers. That may be expensive and a pain, but it would work!
You might replace some of the doors or all with ones that have a spring, and would not need knobs that stick out. In other words you can buy a a spring that closes the door when you let it go. Maybe try the srpings with the present doors and take the knobs off.
Can you find more flush hardware or remove the hardware and open from the top or bottom
Thanks Lindsay, yes we have been contemplating both ideas.
