Christmas Wreath using fresh cedar.

I cut a bunch of fresh cedar to fill in my fireplace mantle and decided to also update my outdoor wreaths.

Items Needed:

  • Fresh cedar stems
  • Grapevine wreath (24 inch)
  • Berry bunches 2 per wreath ($0.99 each)
  • Ribbon for bow
  • Bell
  • Glue Gun
  • Floral Wire
  • Scissors
  • Large blanket or something to lay under to catch YOUR HUGE MESS!!

I’m not sure if you saw my project on making hydrangea wreaths... that was a super messy project! Well these are even messier. Lol.

Here is the fireplace mantle that I also used fresh cedar on.

Start by taking equal length cuts and laying them on each side. Your limbs should face outside of the wreath. Once you have 2-3 branches laid out use your floral wire and make the first wrap around. Tie it off leaving a long tail. Now wrap all the way down one side and back up to your first knot. Now tie a knot to the tail and cut.

Repeat this process on the other side. It doesn’t have to be perfect because you can add more cedar at the end to fill it in more.

Now add your berry bundles on each side and secure with floral wire.

For your bow you will need to cut 3 pieces of equal length ribbon.

I usually just hold my ribbon up to my project to see how long it needs to be.

Take 2 of the pieces of ribbon and form a circle with each of them. Secure using hot glue.

You should have 2 circles and one strand for the tail.

Find the center of each one and gather in the middle and then stack them.

I used a bell with twine attached to it and first wrapped this around the center and tied a knot.

Then I used a small piece of ribbon and tied a knot in it and wrapped around and hot glued the back down.

You can see more details on making a bow by clicking HERE.

Now just hot glue your bow down and fill in the wreath with smaller cedar pieces near the bow and in any blank spots!

Thanks so much for stopping by! If you make these wreaths or any of my other projects be sure to tag me on my social media sites so I can share!!

Your fireplace looks beautiful, job well done!

I live in a grove of cedars and love decorating with boughs and clipping also. However, I would encourage artificial greenery around the fireplace, as cedar is very flammable. You are very creative and could do wonders with an artificial garland. Have a blessed Christmas! 🌲🌲🌲
