How to Make Faux Garland Look More Realistic
Hello friends! Sharing my easy tutorial on how to make your faux garlands look more realistic for the holiday season! So much more inspo and DIY projects over on the blog - hope to see you there!
Step 1:
Hang your base garland wherever you like it. This garland is from Marshall's - it already looks pretty realistic for faux garland, but it could still use some sprucing!
Step 2:
Purchase some fresh eucalyptus from Trader Joes or your local supermarket or florist. Eucalyptus is very inexpensive and it dries beautifully into a lighter sage-y green color. I do NOT spray my eucalyptus to try to make it last longer, I just let it dry - I think it is just as beautiful that way and it lasts 4-6 weeks before it needs replacing.
Step 3:
Add your fresh eucalyptus sprigs throughout your garland. I just stick them in and they stay put with no issue - you could also secure with a twist tie if needed. You can also add other types of greenery sprigs, faux or real. Here, I have the garland itself, the fresh eucalyptus, and then the sprig on the right with the little balls is another type of greenery sprig stuck in too.
Step 4 (optional):
You can also add in faux berry stems and other natural items like pinecones or dried oranges. The more texture and natural elements, the more your base garland looks real!
DONE!
And the end product looks like this. The garland is more full, has more texture, and is just overall more realistic looking!
Here is my easy recipe for NON-flocked garland - feel free to Pin to save for later!
And I couldn't leave you hanging on the flocked version! This is my garland from last year, where I also added faux berries and some real pinecones, which add additional layers of texture and really add to that realistic (and less FAKE) feel!
Enjoy! And hope to see you over on the blog!
