Boil up water and tea bags or veg or plant dye and leave it to steep in that until cold. Take out and rinse in cold water and then dry. Might be an idea to find a book on the subject, that will tell you colours that can be achieved with what materials etc.
These are projects to use bleach to remove dye if that’s something that might interest you.
