Front door and shutter color?

Hi! We bought a new construction house with zero landscaping that is desperately in need of a glow up! I need to decide on a color for the front door, and we would also like to add shutters, so I am looking for color suggestions for shutters too. I have though about painting the garage, but since the trim is white, I am not sure if I should go down that road. I would love to create an English cottage type of feel. All suggestions are very welcome and appreciated!

Matching your roof with a dark grey or black for the garage door if you want it to blend in more.

For a pop of color on the front door, go with a blue, orange, yellow, or red. Depending on your personality. The English Cottage look makes me think of either red or blue but I have seen the other colors as well.

Congratulations on your home. I hope you enjoy it.

Congratulations on your beautiful new home Since you want your home to look :cottagey" you might go with a soft blue-grey door and shutters. I would paint the downspout a color as near the color of your brick as possible to make it less noticeable. You can really make your home pop with the cottage look with your landscaping choices. You may not want to, because the garage door looks a bit cottagey now, but I'd paint it dark like the suggested downspout to make it less noticeable. Just my thoughts to consider and I'm sure you'll get lots of other opinions. You have a beautiful starting point.

What a pretty house! I love all of the details. I would personally do white shutters and a white front door. I love white and brick and it reminds me of an English cottage. It would also match your trim then as well.

  • For a cottage look I would stick with white for the door and shutters or a light or medium gray. I would take the house into a photo imaging app and change the colors to see how you may like how it looks before painting.

  • I think a pretty blue for a pop of color - maybe teal?

What a beautiful house you have. Personally I would leave the white garage door as painting could bubble. Don't paint that until absolutely necessary. I think Navy blue, Dark Gray or Forest Green shutters and door would look beautiful.

Iron Ore by Sherwin-Williams would be classic and beautiful.

Hello, I think you could do a nice charcoal grey for contrast on the door, and shutters, leave the white trim as is, and think about painting the garage door charcoal as well. you can go all mono tone for a great loom too, I attached pictures for you to check out.

I would pick a color in the brick to paint the front door and shutters you add on or you shutters could be a natural wood color

Hi jkautry: One thing you might do is to put your shutters up, take several pictures of your house and then colour in what colours you like on them and see which ones you like best.

Here is a nice site that talks about the different types of shutters. Who knew it could be so complicated???

Hello I find it attractive when shutters are a different color than the door.

Generally paint store brochures can be helpful with suggestions based on the house color.

If it were my situation I might consider a blue door and black shutters. Congratulations on your new home best wishes with the transition and many choices!

I would take a medium tone from the brick and paint the garage door. White is too stark.

When you ask about color you will get 100 answers from 100 people. Go with your heart. Pick a color you like. Try one of the sites that sells aluminum siding that has a site you can upload a picture of your house and change the color of the shutters, siding etc. Try that or simply use sample paint strip colors from the store lay the appropriate color you choose on a print out like you posted here on either side of the window and on the door cut to size. Instant visual. Free and easy.

I had a similar dilemma many years ago. I opted for a cream-colored door and hunter green shutters. Very restful result.

  • Annie Annie on Jan 14, 2021

A light color, off white or cream color would work well

    Hello,

Keep the door White and the Garage doors. Use Dark Green or Dark Red for the Shutters, Maybe add a Window Box under the Window over the Garage., or maybe a Faux Metal Balcony. Have fun!

  • Cindy Cindy on Jan 14, 2021

I would go with a light gray with white trim. I believe that is a timeless look. Don't go with dark colors or saturated colors. That would make the porch (?) look like a cave. Good luck.

  • Morgan McBride Morgan McBride on Jan 17, 2021

I'd do a fun color - what do you like? Yellow? blue? pink? For the shutters, black or a dark charcoal.

Having had black shutters and white trim, they both show dust big time.

I don’t like having to take a hose and scrub them twice a year- introduces too much water into my window areas.

I would buy a very big glazed pot that will also be the front door color.

I would put the pot in-line with the outside corner of the garage, about in front of the closest front room window (to the door).

Or plant an ornamental tree there.
