Builder grade mirror removal
I want to remove the glued on mirror over the vanity in my bathroom. How can it be removed without breaking it? I don't want glass all over the bathroom.

To start with, be prepared for the worst case scenario-it breaks and shatters-dress properly to protect yourself. I would also cover the mirror with adhesive contact paper, peel and stick it on, covering the mirror completely. Here's a good link on how to do your project:

I think the videos above explain it well. The only thing I would be prepared for is the possibility of breakage, as stated, and much more damage to the wall behind. In my experience there's a lot more glue than that on the wall and it rips the wall apart. You may need to new sheetrock and not just a tiny patch. Also there are frame kits for those mirrors if you want to leave it up and just add a different look.
You can tape the mirror with duct tape all over so when (and it probably will if it is glued to the wall) it breaks the duct tape will hold all of the broken glass together remove it. Use heavy painters tarp/canvass to keep any splinters off of counter and floor.
Hi Debby, this should help you out

Hi! My experience is that you are going to have to pry it off the wall, and it will probably break. I used horizontal and vertical strips of duct tape, close together, didn't stand in front of it, protected the surfaces around me and wore safety equipment. A contractor once told me it's better to break it as safely as possible and get it down. He recommended working from one side to the other and never standing in front of it. I didn't get cut, was able to remove large sections and had no bad luck from it! Good luck and stay safe!
Hello Debby,
I would completely cover it in Contact stuck well down, to prevent shards coming off, and then try to remove it.
I would add to this video, crisscross strips of duct tape all over the mirror, wear a long sleeve heavy shirt, googles, gloves - protect yourself mirror cuts can be deadly.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8tuYlk6PNY&t=254s
Unless you want to remove the drywall behind it (tedious and no guarantees), it will break.
So, drywall has 3x'd in price since last May.
You also know the mess of after you pry it off has costs.
Gear up and be prepared for a mess, no matter what.
