Updating a Plant Stand? Of Course!
Some plant stands have gorgeous detail but they are just boring as far as color goes. Do you have one and want to make that detail pop? Here’s what I did to mine!
Here’s the before. So much potential is hiding under that dirty cream color. Let’s put some life into it!
Clean! This is my favorite cleaner! It’s non-toxic, cleans incredibly well and leaves no residue. Since this plant stand had a lot of detail, I had to use a scrub brush and tooth brush to clean out all the crevices.
Base coat. I used a green color as the base coat. I applied toe coats and let it dry throughly in between. This will give you a good base before you add some color, plus it gives that natural greenery feel.
Time for color! I kept it simple and picked out just a few different colors. I wanted the design to pop but not look too busy. I started with the flowers.
Any design that was similar, I kept the same color. That way the design is flowing around the stand.
After adding a few more colors. Again, keeping similar designs the same color. I added a darker green to all the leaves. This added depth and a more natural look.
This is how I added the depth with light brush strokes.
Then I did the same technique to all the different colors. This helped pull everything together and blend it.
It added just enough detail! Now it’s time to seal. You can use whatever paint like you choose and use their recommended topcoat and wax. I used all DIY paint and finishes for this piece.
I added black and white wax to finish it off!

Was not sure in the beginning if I liked your upgrade but the more I looked at the pictures the more it grew on me and now KUDOS to your upgrade and for sharing your process. I am now wondering if a little of the gold rub n buff would look good. :)
