Two front doors, maybe your house was divided at one point before you owned it ?

I grew up in a circa 1860 home that had a single exterior door but two interior doors. One door led to the kitchen while the other was at a right angle and led to the parlor, used as our living room. All the other homes on the street were very similar. My grandmother, my mom and her sisters, who lived in the same area, said you could close off the kitchen to strong odors and to the heat especially in summer. That kept the rest of the house cool. In the winter, the doors were kept open as well as the 2nd door at the opposite end of the kitchen that also opened into the parlor. When we visited Colonial Williamsburg I noticed the kitchens were in totally separate buildings for the same reasons—keeping kitchen odors in check as well as keeping the major gathering spaces cool in summer & warm in winter. A simple strategy in those days before air fresheners and air conditioning.
