Home Office Reveal

Our DIY home office is finished! We did everything in this room ourselves, from the hardwood floors, to the built-in desk and bookshelves to the crown molding. The built-ins are definitely my favorite part of this room... they were a labor of love!
The free-standing desk was a $100 craigslist find that I madeover with homemade chalk paint, using regular paint and plaster of paris.
Most of the decor items are from HomeGoods or Joss & Main. Do you know about Joss & Main? If not, google it... I'm obessed!
A little reading nook. That pillow there was my first sewing project!
My dad and I made this built-in desk and bookshelves ourselves! The base was made from unfinished cabinets from Lowe's, the desktop was made from from scratch from unfinished select pine boards, and the bookshelves were made from scratch too! I also made the fabric-covered nailhead trim corkboard in the middle from scratch too using plywood and cork tiles from Staples. That tutorial is covered in another one of my posts... check it out!!
The built-in desk and bookshelves were a little tricky because the one corner is at a weird angle. We wound up cutting the bottom cabinet in half diagonally to make it fit.
The file cabinet was an old one from my dad's house that I spraypainted to spruce it up a bit!
And just for fun, here is a before shot of this room.
And after!!! Looks a little better, right?? For a complete source list and links to all of the DIY projects, check out my blog post!

Nem1837006 on Jul 01, 2015How large is this space? I'm redoing my small office as well, so I'd like to be guided.

I can't find that color, only smoke ??
We are considering turning our formal living room into a home office. I'm curious, did you add doors to the room? Our office would need doors, however, I feel like it would look odd. Our dining room is opposite the formal living room, it looks like your floorplan could be similar to mine.
