I had no idea what to do with this piece. I could have painted it but I really didn't need it and it was just taking up room in my garage. My fire place was my inspiration.
I cut the piece down to 10 inches using the bottom half and the top for a hearth for my plain fireplace. The top is connected with a piano hinge for storage. I added the car sidding and stained it to match my original remodel of the fireplace front. I have more information about this build on a different post.

So now what to do with the top half of the buffet????

I have an amazing window in my kitchen and have always wanted a bench but just never got inspired by a design. So her we go...... Waste not want not!!!!
I stared by reinforcing the remaining piece, it was a little wobbly without the support of the bottom half.
Then added a shelf to the inside and 1x6 wood to the top. Then painted the piece (so of course I had to paint my cabinets to match)
I added foam and batting. Oops I stepped on it. 😄 then covered with gray upholstery fabric. Added some baskets for stuff and more stuff. And I was even able to use the original drawer.
I included upholstery studs and tahdah!!! It's perfect!
