The husband and I started with a builder grade fireplace and surround
And we the popped off the tiles, would you be surprised to know that they were put on with liquid nails? We were shocked!
Now we did install new tile, but that is not the point of this post....
This cost us about 15 bucks from Lowes. We also purchased some stain. We then cut it down to the size we needed. After that we sanded any rough spots.
We added the stain...
And this was how it looked once it was completed. We spray painted the brackets holding it on the bottom black so nothing would stand out and then installed it.
This is how it ended up! I'm not saying it is professional but it works for us. Don't mind the doggy beds!
Updated photo. HELLO MR. PUG!

RCooper @ thoughtsbyher.com on Mar 01, 2015@Coolat42 Hello! It was kind of difficult to find the tile. We had went to several places in town and then found the one supplier who supplied this type of tile to the builder of the model home we saw it in. Part of that was really good luck, the other part was Colorado Springs is kind of small. If you like, I can try to go back in my emails to get you the name and manufacturer. Just let me know.
