Give a Plain Bookshelf a Leg Up

Easy
When designing a bedroom for our toddler son, our goal was to create a room that would grow with him for many years, but that would still be a fun and engaging kid's space. Since our son LOVES books, we decided to give his room a sophisticated, library feel with mini-button tufted chairs, a coffee/play table, and a wall of low bookshelves. We purchased 2 Ikea Expedits (now replaced by the Kallax) because they were a good fit for the budget (i.e., they were cheap!).
While the Expedits are perfectly functional bookshelves, we wanted to add a little something to make them better fit "little gentleman lounge" style of the room. We decided to give the shelves a leg up {or rather a foot up} with the addition of some turned, bun feet.
But we still wanted to create a balance between sophisticated and fun, so we painted the bun feet an unexpected, glossy yellow!

But we still wanted to create a balance between sophisticated and fun, so we painted the bun feet an unexpected, glossy yellow!
We then picked up the appropriate hardware and installed six bun feet on the bottom of each bookshelf. The full installation instructions can be found on my blog at the link below.
The bright yellow bookshelf feet are so fun, and tie in perfectly with the yellow in the handpainted argyle wall!

Annie Doherty on Jul 01, 2016Wonderful makeover thank you, I may pinch your idea for my craft room as your bookshelf with drawers would be perfect for my craft books, magazines, paper patterns etc keeping them all in one place. Your Son had a beautiful creative space that will grow with him, perfect.

Melissa V on Nov 10, 2016Angela, I've seen your son's "lounge" in a previous post and it is a great idea/project for an adult space also (kind of your purpose for him to grow into it). I just had to laugh out loud when I read that his chairs are actually dog beds!!! Anyway, I am adding some not too tall legs to an old military trunk to make a footstool/ottoman and I like yours the best. Thank you!!!
