Three years ago, I gave my ugly, white Corian counter a facelift and installed a vinyl film that mimicked Ubatuba granite.
I had salvaged the Corian from a house I demolished and installed it in my mudroom. You can't beat the price -- free! -- but it looked sad and tired.
So I installed EZ Faux film, vinyl that looks like granite. Here's where you can buy it: http://www.applianceart.com/Instant_Granite_Film_s/104.htm. And, no, I don't have any connection to the company, other than as a satisfied customer.
Install is easy: Clean the counter with a microfiber cloth. Cut the roll of film so it fits over the counter and around the sink. Peal back the paper backing. Spritz the counter and back of the film with water so you can easily reposition the film if needed. Then smooth out the film and remove puckers with the tool the company gives you.
The film has held up beautifully over the past three years. Granted, this mudroom counter doesn’t get heavy traffic. I bathe the dogs in the sink, so the counters get wet at times. And if you stick your nose on the film you can see scratches from the dogs' nails. But, mostly, the counter looks great. I often forget it's faux. And if we ever sell the house, I’ll have to remember to tell a prospective buyer it's a fake -- but fabulous!
