So normally, it's Erin who uploads our projects here on Hometalk, but today, I'm going to take the glory :) That's right, Dan here! And it's my first Hometalk post ever. This all started when Erin asked me to build a new day bed for our blog office (check out our last post for how that room all turned out). She wanted one to look like a popular designer bed from West Elm that we couldn't get shipped to our province. I was kinda freaked out because I'd never built anything that big before.
But I persevered. And I even managed to build the whole thing using just plain old lumber from the hardware store. Behold. This is what I started with, more or less after some measuring and researching other online plans.

There was a lot of cutting involved. But luckily, it was all straight cuts, so once I got into a groove, it was alright.
The bed is basically a whole bunch of 'H's screwed together. I used my Kreg Jig, wood screws and glue, mostly.
I made the three main components and then decided to assemble it in the room so it was easier to move around. The hardest part was making sure everything stayed flush and square.
The slats were measured and then screwed in. One thing I'd definitely do differently next time, is I'd paint it before putting the slats down. It made it much harder to paint the front of the back of the bed (if that makes sense) ... anyway, live and learn!
And here it is! All done! We sanded and puttied and sanded some more and then painted it up in a soft white. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out :)
Enjoyed the project?
