$20 Simple Sturdy Work Bench for Any Kind of Work!

For Mother's Day this year I was fortunate enough to be given a 12" sliding compound miter saw. The only problem is that I had nowhere to put such a magnificent gift! That is when I knew that a super sturdy, super cheap work bench/miter saw table was my next project.
Using 1 sheet of 2' x 4' x 3/4" MDF, a few 4" x 4" posts, a 2" x 4", 5" lag screws and some wood screws I was able to make a workbench that will probably outlive me and certainly hold up to any projects I can hit it with.
Here is the assembly model- for the exact cut and supply list- please see my blog.
Using this bit, I counter sunk the pilot holes so that the lag screws would be beneath the surface of the wood. No bruises from bumping into hex screws around here.
Then I drilled pilot holes through the posts.
These are the joints that each required 2 lag screws to join the 4" x 4"s
We assembled both sides first.
Then attached the center support beam.
Using my Kreg Jig, I drilled pocket holes to attach the front and back 2x4's to the outside posts.
Then we jumped on it to make sure it was as strong as it looked. It was. Success!!! I tipped it over and attached some castors to the posts. 2 straight wheels for the front and 2 swivel locking castors for the back. Safety first!
Using wood screws countersunk into the MDF, I attached it to the frame. No wood glue, just in case it ever needs to come apart. Then I used screws to secure my new miter saw to the table. Dreamy isn't it?
There ya have it- an afternoon of building and around $20 our of your pocket. Can't beat that!
