I love old windows and window frames. There are so many things that can be created by using old windows and frames. Just get those creative juices flowing. I wanted a little bistro table for my deck. Rummaging through all of my saved pieces of furniture and junk I found the base of an old soda shop table, a window and 2 chairs that went with the soda shop table. The project was very inexpensive as I had practically everything in my workshop.
Pictured here is the window frame. I sanded it down to get all of the old finish off. After sanding I painted it using Behr Latex eggshell Enamel paint. I painted the base of the table with Rust-Oleum spray paint.
Needing something to attach to the top of the base, to set the window on, I cut a piece of 1-inch thick board and attached it to the base with screws, on the underside. Next, I painted the board in a lighter green and free handed the design on the board.
I placed the window on the base. I used clear silicon bumper knobs as a buffer between the glass and the wood. A note here, there was not a balance problem. I did not have an issue with one end of the window flipping up if someone leaned on it with their elbows. The summer heat helps to stick the silicon bumper knobs to the glass.
Time to tackle the chairs. I had 2 chairs that originally were paired with the soda shop table. I cleaned and sanded the rust off and spray painted them with Rust-Oleum Hunter green. I made the seats from round disc bought at Home Depot. I cut 2 pieces of foam placed on the disc and covered them with a tropical print fabric that I already had on hand. I like the outcome so much instead of putting the table on my deck, I put it on my front porch. Great for front porch sitting.
