Upcycled Cabinet Into a Kids Tool Bench

Kids are never too young to start DIY-ing and my son is the perfect example of this. He loves to pretend that he is drilling holes or putting together furniture just like his dad! Its really very cute to watch him running around the house sticking plastic screws and nails into anything that resembled a hole in an attempt to fix things!
I decided to make him a tool bench - however rather than make it from scratch I decided to upcycle an old cabinet that I had bought for pennies off ebay. I'm a bit of an upcycle fanatic especially when it comes to my son, you can see more of my upcyled kids projects here
This is how it looked before. It was in a bit of a state when I got it but it was perfect for what I wanted. I removed the old knobs and gave it a face lift with some paint. You can see full material lists and direct sources at my blog link below
I painted the outsides with red and blue paint and added a chalkboard to the door. I just love chalkboards! You can never have too many I say! Ive got a whole Pinterest board dedicated to chalkboard which you can follow here
Once everything was all dry and sealed with Varnish (theres a brand I love to use if you visit the blog and see) I attached a peg broad using corner brackets.
Now that the pegboard was in place I started adding on some accessories to make it look more like a 'tool bench'. I screwed in some plastic tubs, a dowel road and added on peg hooks for his tools (all sources for items used are listed at blog link below). I love how it all came together! What do you guys think? You can see more pictures on the blog - of course I'd LOVE if you could check out my other projects whilst your there too ;)
