It is possible to makeover a room with zero budget. See how I updated my kid's bathroom without spending a cent and without having to paint all the walls!

I have three kids under 5 that share this bathroom. You can probably guess why I am not willing to invest any money into this room (because three kids under 5 years of age share this bathroom icon )

I come in here often to help bath, brush teeth, wipe off the constant toothpaste smears off the countertops, clean, etc. This bathroom is a total downer compared to the effort I have put into their rooms and toy room.

I had a free hour to kill and while I was wiping down the counter for the 10th time that week I decided to make a change. I didn't have much of a plan, I just knew I didn't want to paint walls. Painting walls in the bathroom is the absolute worst!! I already had a decent rug with colors I could pull from. All I had to do was shop my house. I always have something on the wall, in the closets, in the garage, under the stairs or something being stashed away or have been over used in a room that needed a change as much as this bathroom.

I went on a hunt around the house and the theme came together perfectly and it wasn't even planned!! I gathered all sorts of random things from different rooms and here is what I came up with.

I got my kids involved. I had this step stool from a thrift store that was a bright turquoise color. I let my son go through my paint drawer and pick out a new color to paint the stool to go with the rug in the bathroom. He chose this ocean blue. He is my design assistant and usually has great ideas when it comes to design and creating something. He has been dragged around with me since he was in an infant car carrier and I would take him to my design jobs. As he got mobile he would help me stage and now that he is older, he has some great design ideas!

I took the map from the walls in the "under the stairs clubhouse" the kids made.

That oar had hooks on it that was being used in my twin's bedroom hanging up some hats. I unscrewed the hooks and hung it from one of the wall hangers on the back to use as art.

I pulled that little red chair in the corner from the toy room that was not being used. (could use a fresh coat of paint but the weathered look works well for this theme)

I found some red frames sitting in a closet that I put the kids drawings in for more artwork.

You can't see it the pictures but I found a wood whale cutting board in the kitchen that I got as a white elephant gift that I put some art teeth on the back and hung it up by the sinks.

Also not pictured - I had my twins draw on some white canvas' that I had in my junk (craft) room and hung them above the toilet where the tub is. They are so proud of those pictures when they take a bath and look at them!

Also added back the blue stool my son painted and the color goes much better than the previous color.

Just clean off the counters and add some clean towels and voila! It took me about an hour to gather and hang everything and ZERO $$!

I've said it in pretty much every post and I will continue to say it. You do not need to spend money to update your house. Shop your house, move things around, rehang art in different rooms for a refresh. If you absolutely need to buy something start at thrift stores and buy it cheap and see how you can update it or repurpose it. DIY what you can! You can do it! Tell me about your zero budget makeover!
