I first painted my pine furniture black. It was fine and after awhile I wanted a change. So, I painted the trim around the drawers and glued fabric to the fronts. What started it was an IKEA mirror that I have had for many years. It is framed in black suede. After years, the suede started to crumble and get tacky. I got the fabric to cover the mirror. I hot glued the front and stapled the back.
I started by painting the trim around the drawers. It took 3 coats. Then I glued on the fabric using white glue and water ( mod podge would work ). The knobs are wood and I spray painted them.
I'm happy with the outcome.
So, I had left over fabric and wanted to use it. So I painted the drawer trim with a yellow paint, it took 3 coats to cover that black. Then I glued the fabric on the fronts using a watered down white glue. I brushed it onto the front and laid the fabric over it. I used a credit card to smooth out the wrinkles and bubbles. I also brushed some glue over the fabric around the edges ( dries clear ).
Did the same thing with my 2 nightstands.
It was about 6 hours for the dresser and about the same amount of time for the nightstands.
I love to sew and always looking for projects that use fabric.
