The Monster (jewelry) in the Closet
Granted, this is not the prettiest way to store necklaces but it works like a charm. And yes, it is not mind-blowingly original but it will solve your storage problem immediately - unlike installing a tension rod.
I snigger when I see some of the cute jewelry storage ideas that people post. Ten little chains here, 5 sets of earrings there - all prettily displayed for the world to see. This would not work for my ever growing collection of over 100 bulky (mostly) plastic monster necklaces.
Firstly, like most addicts I don’t want the world to see the extent of my addiction. Secondly, I wear one every day so they need to be instantly visible and accessible without getting dusty. Thirdly, many of them are too big and stiff to hang from closely spaced hooks or they ‘eat’ each other.
So, one day amidst a fit of rage because I could not untangle something, I had a brainwave: hang them directly by their hooks onto the clothes rod that was already in an empty cupboard.
Though not a mind-blowingly original idea, the point I am trying to make is that you may not have to wait to install a custom-built tension rod.
Some of the necklaces do not have clasps, so cannot be hung on the rod. It so happens that there is an old tie rack in the cupboard and this is perfect for the rest. I am sure one can find something similiar on the internet (I saw a fancy one) or find something similiar in a thrift shop. Otherwise just use command hooks.
