Garbage Can Area Privacy Fence

We chose to skip digging holes, filling them with mixed concrete and waiting for them to dry. Instead we bought three of these steel stakes from Lowe’s and used scrap wood to pound them two feet down into the ground. These will hold our fence posts. It took only a few minutes and have made for a super sturdy fence!

After measuring how wide we wanted our fence panel to be and adding our post stakes we set our posts in. We used 4x4 wood posts and cut them to our desired height using our mitre saw. Then just use the provided screws to tighten the post stakes so the wood fence posts are secure. We also measured, cut and quickly sanded some 1x 8 boards to use as our panel boards.

We centered our first panel board on our fence posts, starting at the bottom and made sure it was level. We used a nail gun to hold it in place quick and then came back with some 3” wood screws to secure the panel board to the fence posts. Our area gets quite a bit of wind so we knew we needed space between each board for the wind to pass through. We used a couple scrap pieces and set a block at each end of the bottom board and set the second board on top of those blocks. That gave us even spacing and also helped keep our fence level. We checked level each time to be sure and followed the same process all the way up!

Our garbage area needed to be a little bigger so we also added the third post and small fence panel to close it off on the end. You could use this same process to make a privacy fence around your yard or the side of a patio or deck for a small privacy screen.

We chose to use an outdoor paint to match our home but you could also stain your fence! That’s it! We were able to complete this fence quickly and inexpensively. Enjoy!
