I have a spider plant hanging in my kitchen window but does not get direct sunlight. It seems to be doing well but now when it grows babies they do well and then drop off? What am I doing wrong?

I also live in the high desert (3000ft). For years I had my spider plants outdoors, planted in the ground in a sheltered spot. I used to have to trim any dead bits every spring, but they all came back nicely after a few weeks of warm weather.
