4 Easy Habits For A Cleaner Home

Post sponsored by Comet

Spring is on its way! If you haven’t already put your New Year’s resolution for a cleaner home into action, these tips have got you covered:
1. Even if you're not cleaning your entire kitchen before bed, make sure not to leave dirty dishes in the sink overnight
2. Put one thing away every time you enter or exit any room (you'll never have to do a "big cleanup" again!)
3. Keep a running list of items you need as you use them up
4. Quickly wipe down your bathroom and kitchen countertops at the end of the day and your house will always feel clean
These four easy daily habits will simplify your life and have everyone on the block asking for your secret. It's easy to get caught up in work or other projects and wake up to find the house a total mess. These daily habits create a fresh, clean home for you, your family and houseguests all year long. Don't wait for your annual deep spring cleaning. Instead, do a little each day, and you'll be so glad you did.
The bathroom and kitchen are the most trafficked areas of the home - use cleaning products that keep a longer lasting clean (check out our post on must-have housecleaning kit essentials). In other rooms, you’ll find regular maintenance will keep your life and home in order.

Add each one of these quick habits over four days, to ensure you stick to them. If you try to implement these habits all at once you may not stick to it. You’ll want the habits to stay in your life so be sure to set yourself up for success by easing into your new cleaner home habits. Below are more tips to making the “4 Habits” successful in your home.
1. Even if you're not cleaning your entire kitchen before bed, make sure not to leave dirty dishes in the sink overnight

Before making this a daily habit, we suggest cleaning your sink with a strong cleanser for an effective and quick deep clean. Having a clean sink will encourage you to keep it clean! Keep your sponge mildew free with a binder clip, so washing dishes is that much easier and more pleasant.
2. Put one thing away every time you enter or exit any room (you'll never have to do a "big cleanup" again!)

Keep a sticky note up in a doorway or on a highly visible wall that reminds you to take something with you each time you leave a room! Keep the sticky note up for as long as it takes for this to become second nature.
3. Keep a running list of items you need as you use them up

As soon as you’re close to running out of a supply, write it down for your next shopping trip so you’re never stuck without an essential. Visual reminders are the key to making this a habit. Keep notepads strategically placed in high traffic areas in each room to make it easy to write it down as soon as you notice you’re running low. Keep the notebooks in plain sight for as long as you need to make this a habit.
4. Quickly wipe down your bathroom and kitchen countertops at the end of the day and your house will always feel clean

Keep it simple and use a damp rag or sponge to wipe down the most used areas. When it’s time for a deeper clean, use your trusty go-to cleaning products, like Comet®’s Powder and Bathroom Spray, to do the job.
Continue these four easy actions for over 60 days - they’ll become a habit, and you’ll have a beautiful home.

If you can, buy 2 of your essentials. As soon as you switch to the second pick up another back up to have on hand so you always have the peace of mind that you're not out and if $ is tight you've got some time to replace the product so you're never short. Also if you do short yourself on comet powder, baking soda works as an amazing substitute too. Vinegar in a spritz bottle will also in a pinch mixed with water of course. Even without a lot of expendable cash we can keep things tidy🙃

I do this too. I buy as much as I can when on sale or I have large saving coupons, then store them in a plastic container in bottom of a closet. That way I never run out and I save money.

I learned that pick up as you go method years ago from an old store manager of what has now become Macy's. He taught to the employees to make time and work more efficient. I use it now as I come and go out of each and every room. We didn't have the term multi-tasking back in the 80's but yep that's what it was! Thank you Mr. Land.
